The best UI for Hermes Agent is Julian Goldie's Agent OS, because it puts every agent, model and automation in one custom dashboard. But the best UI for Hermes Agent for you really comes down to how you work. Some people live in a visual command centre. Some want a native app. Some never leave the terminal. And some just want to message their agent from their phone.

So this page sorts the options by working style first, then ranks all eight.

Disclosure: Agent OS is mine, and it comes with the AI Profit Boardroom for $69/mo.

Which UI fits you

Read these and stop at the first one that sounds like you.

  1. "I run Hermes plus Claude Code, Codex and other agents, and I want one screen for all of it." Agent OS.
  2. "I want an official app I can open from my dock." Hermes Desktop.
  3. "I want something that feels like an operating system, with spaces and missions." Herald OS.
  4. "I want a free browser panel to manage settings, cron and costs." The Hermes web dashboard.
  5. "I mostly talk to Hermes from my phone." Messaging apps through the gateway.
  6. "I'm a developer and I live in the terminal." The Hermes CLI or TUI.
  7. "I just want to watch my agents walk around an office." Hermes3D, or StarNet for a pixel-art station.

Most people end up with two: one main screen plus their phone. That's normal.

1. Julian Goldie's Agent OS

Type: visual command centre.

Agent OS is the dashboard I custom built to run Hermes Agent and my other agents, like Claude Code and Codex, from one place. The reason it's number one is simple. Every other UI on this list shows you one slice. Agent OS shows you the lot.

You install it from a zip, and there's setup training to walk you through it. You could use it inside Hermes Desktop, but I just don't think it looks as good as something we've custom built.

The Agent OS guide covers the full setup.

Pick it if: you run more than one agent and you're tired of switching windows.

2. Hermes Desktop

Type: official native app.

Hermes Desktop is the official app from Nous Research, for macOS on Apple silicon, Windows and Linux. It runs the same agent core as the CLI, so you get the full Hermes, just in a window you can click around.

It has a plugin catalog and Bot Mode, and it can connect to a remote backend through Settings, then Gateways. So you can run Hermes on a server and still use the desktop app on your laptop. My full walkthrough is in the Hermes Desktop app guide.

Pick it if: you want the official app and you mainly work with Hermes on its own.

3. Herald OS

Type: agent-native OS, independent, alpha.

Herald OS is built by Luke The Dev, MIT licensed, at alpha version 0.1. It treats Hermes as the interface to a whole workspace: spaces, missions, memory, files, automations, and a "hey Hermes" voice trigger. There's a macOS app for Apple silicon and a Linux installer.

When I tested it, it looked nicer than Hermes Desktop. The Connections page didn't work for me, though, which you'd expect from an alpha. I go deeper in my Herald OS review.

Pick it if: you want an OS-style layout and you're fine with early bugs.

4. Hermes web dashboard

Type: official browser panel.

Run hermes dashboard and it opens a local web UI at 127.0.0.1:9119. Per the Hermes docs, it runs entirely on your machine and no data leaves localhost.

It's the best free way to manage Hermes without editing YAML files. Per the docs, you get a status page, a Chat tab that embeds the full Hermes TUI in the browser, searchable session history, an Analytics page with token use and estimated cost, a Cron page for scheduled jobs, plus pages for profiles, skills, MCP servers, messaging channels and system admin.

It ranks fourth here, not higher, because it's built for managing Hermes more than living in it day to day. As an admin panel, nothing free beats it.

Pick it if: you want free, official control over settings, schedules and costs.

5. Messaging apps via the gateway

Type: chat apps.

The Hermes messaging gateway lets you chat with your agent from Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal or email. No new app to learn. You just message Hermes like you'd message a person.

This is how a lot of people actually use Hermes once it's set up. You kick off a task from your phone while you're out, and it gets on with it. The web dashboard even has a Channels page to connect these from the browser, per the docs.

Pick it if: you're away from your desk a lot.

6. Hermes CLI and TUI

Type: terminal.

The terminal app is where Hermes started. It's fast, it's scriptable, and it's what everything else is built around. The web dashboard's Chat tab is literally the TUI running in your browser.

For beginners, it's the least friendly option. For developers, it's often the quickest.

Pick it if: you're comfortable in a terminal and want zero extra layers.

7. Hermes3D

Type: 3D office, with a 2D pixel office mode.

Hermes3D is an independent project by LukeTheDev, MIT licensed, at version 1.0.0. Per the README, it's a 3D virtual office for agents you run on your own infrastructure. There's a 2D pixel office mode, Gather-style, for low-power machines.

Per the README, you can run standups with agents connected to GitHub and Jira, review pull requests inside the office, and monitor QA pipelines and logs. It connects to Hermes through a bundled gateway adapter, but it doesn't install Hermes for you.

Pick it if: you want something visual and fun, or you're showing agents to a team.

8. StarNet

Type: pixel-art station.

StarNet is an independent project by androoAGI with MIT-licensed code. It's a pixel-art station that imports your Hermes agents. It's an early release, so it's a toy for now, not a control panel.

Pick it if: you want a fun extra screen.
