Hermes Desktop App: The Free AI Agent Manager For 2026

Hermes Desktop App is the cleanest way to manage your AI agents in 2026 — and it's free.

Until now, Hermes lived in your terminal.

Powerful, but messy.

The new Hermes Desktop App changes that.

One window.

All your agents.

All your tools.

Free.

Why The Desktop App Matters

Three reasons.

1. Easier to manage. Instead of squinting at a terminal, you're using a real UI with sidebars, tabs, and toggles.

2. Multi-agent in one place. Switch between Hermes profiles like switching tabs. Have a sales agent, a research agent, a content agent — all visible at once.

3. Tools, skills, memory unified. Browser, web search, terminal CLI, text-to-speech, skills folder, memory profiles — all togglable from the desktop UI.

That's the upgrade.

If you've ever felt overwhelmed by Hermes' terminal interface, this is the fix.

What's Inside The Desktop App

Open it and you see:

Chat tab. Speak to Hermes directly, switch model providers on the fly.

Sessions tab. See every conversation across every channel — Telegram, CLI, web UI — in one list.

Agents tab. Manage profiles. Each profile = a Hermes with its own skills, memory, persona.

Skills tab. Browse installed skills, add new ones from the community library.

Models tab. Switch between Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral, OpenRouter, Ollama, local endpoints.

Memory tab. Manage providers (Honcho, etc.), user profile, agent memory, persona.

Office. A 3D virtual office where you watch your agents "work" in real time.

That last one is gimmicky but fun.

The first six are genuinely useful.

Setup In 5 Minutes

The fastest path:

1. Open the existing Hermes terminal.

2. Ask Hermes to install the desktop app for you.

Literally type: "Set up the Hermes Desktop App on my machine."

Hermes runs the install commands.

3. Run the platform-specific setup.

For Mac, you'll get a one-line install command. Run it.

4. Open the app.

Connect to your existing Hermes profile.

You're in.

If anything errors, paste the error back into Hermes and ask it to fix.

That's it.

For the broader Hermes setup, my hermes ai course post covers the multi-tool stack.

Why This Beats The Terminal UI

Three observations from a week of use.

1. Faster context switching. Click between profiles instead of typing commands.

2. Better memory management. Edit your persona inline. See memory tags, edit them, delete them.

3. Schedule manager is finally usable. Daily scheduled tasks now appear as a list with edit/delete buttons. In terminal you had to remember the slash commands.

For nontechnical users — which is 99% of people — this UI is the difference between "uses Hermes weekly" and "uses Hermes daily."

For more on Hermes vs OpenClaw, my deepseek openclaw post covers the harness comparison.

Migrate From OpenClaw

One feature buried in settings: Migrate to Hermes.

If you've got an OpenClaw setup with skills, sessions, configs — Hermes Desktop will import them.

One click.

It's not perfect but saves you hours of manual transfer.

I covered the OpenClaw side in my build your own openclaw post — pairs naturally with this migration angle.

Multi-Profile Pattern

The killer feature is profile switching.

I run four profiles in parallel:

Default. General assistant — answer questions, schedule reminders.

Sales. Custom persona for client-facing work — formal tone, sales skill library.

Content. SEO-focused — content writing skills, browser automation.

Research. Deep dive specialist — long context, careful citation skills.

Each profile has different skills (88, 155, 23, 67) — visible in the desktop UI.

In terminal this was technically possible but practically impossible to manage.

In the desktop app, switching profiles is a click.

The Office Mode

Click on Office in settings.

Install "Claw 3D" (yes, that's the name).

Now you see your AI agents in a 3D virtual office.

It's pure aesthetic — your agents don't actually do anything different — but it's fun and makes it easy to visualise what's running.

Worth installing if only for the "look at my AI office" screenshot.

Gateway Management

Hermes Desktop has a Gateway tab where you manage:

In terminal, configuring gateways meant editing config files.

In desktop, it's a toggle plus a credentials field.

Massive UX upgrade.

For Telegram specifically, my hermes deepseek post covers the bot setup pattern.
