I spent 30 September 2026 putting Dots through real tasks on camera: calls, avatars, research, bookings and website design. Before you compare features, you need to see that Dots and Claude are built in different shapes. Speed in Real Tasks
Speed is where the Dots vs Claude gap was clearest for me. I asked Dots to make an avatar and it took 20-30 minutes. From Sonnet 5.5 I'd expect roughly 5-6 minutes for the same job. When I kicked off a research task, the Dots cloud computer needed about 2 minutes just to get started, before any real work happened.
Anthropic says Claude Sonnet 5.5, released on 28 September 2026, gives more than 30% faster output than Sonnet 5 and up to 30% lower cost per task. It also has a 1M-token context window and runs in claude.ai and Claude Code. Honestly, Sonnet 5.5 was a much better release this week than Dots, and I cover the details in my Sonnet 5.5 release breakdown.
Dots wasn't all slow. The restaurant booking worked in about 5 minutes, and research briefs, website builder design and parallel tasks all finished. But when I'm running a business, the time between asking and getting it done matters a lot, and on that measure Claude won almost every time.

Computer and Browser Use
Both Dots and Claude can operate a computer, and this is the part most people care about. With Dots you get a managed cloud computer. You can watch it work, and there's a take-over mode so you can jump in and steer. In my tests take-over mode worked well, and running several tasks in parallel was genuinely useful.
The trouble is the startup time and the rough edges around it. Claude's computer use and browser use are what I can comfortably rely on. With Sonnet 5.5 I point it at a browser job and it simply gets on with it, without a long spin-up and without the access errors I hit on Dots.
Opus 5.5 came out one week before Sonnet 5.5 and costs $4/$20 per million tokens on the API. It's pretty amazing for the heavier reasoning jobs. Where Dots Genuinely Wins: Always-On
To be fair to Dots, it has one clear advantage. A Dot is always on. It lives on its own cloud computer, it keeps going while you sleep, and it learns from your feedback. You don't need to build a harness, set up a server or write a schedule. For someone who wants an agent that just runs in the background, that's a real selling point.
Claude doesn't do this out of the box. To make Claude run 24/7, you give it a harness or a schedule, such as Claude Code routines or a Hermes /goal. It isn't hard once you know how, but it's an extra step, and that's the honest trade-off.
Here's the catch, though. If always-on autonomy is what you actually need, other agents deliver it more reliably right now.
