Dots costs you a ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium subscription, and you get one Dot per user. That is the whole deal. You cannot bring a cheaper model, you cannot run the Dot on your own hardware, and if you are in the UK, Switzerland or the EEA, Pro will not give you a Dot at all right now.

Reliability In Real Use
Here is what actually happened when I tested Dots on launch day. First, I needed Pro, and my business workspace was blocked. When I upgraded another account, I hit a region lockout. The call button would not connect. The avatar took 20 to 30 minutes to generate. The cloud computer needed about two minutes to start a research task.
Once the Dot was running, a lot did work. A restaurant booking went through in about five minutes. Take-over mode, where you jump in and control the Dot's computer, worked fine. Parallel tasks worked. Research briefs came back clean, and the website builder produced a nicely designed page. The weak spot was app connections: it was unclear how to hook up my tools, and the Dot pointed me to the Zapier MCP instead of just connecting.
