I get asked about Hermes agent use cases more than almost anything else, so I'm going to show you the seven I actually use every single day.

Not theory.

Not "imagine if AI could…" fluff.

These are real things running on my machine right now, including a Jarvis-style voice assistant that builds apps while I talk to it.

I said "Jarvis, build me a galaxy I can swirl with my mouse" and it replied "Built and running, sir" — and there it was, spinning on my screen.

I don't code, and I built all of this.

Here's the full demo if you want to see it in action first.

I'll be honest with you up front: it doesn't always work perfectly, and sometimes it's not that smooth.

But the power of this setup is genuinely blowing my mind, and this is the worst it's ever going to be.

Let's get into the seven use cases.

Use Case 1: A Jarvis-Style Voice Assistant (My Favourite Hermes Agent Use Case)

This is the party trick that started everything.

My setup combines three parts: Hermes agent for the agentic capabilities, ElevenLabs for the voice responses, and Claude working on improvements in the background.

There's a wake word, so I say "Jarvis" or "Hermes" and it switches on.

I can leave it running in the background like a wall-mounted assistant, ready and waiting whenever I need it.

Here's a real exchange from this week.

I asked "Jarvis, what have I been working on this week?" and it answered "You've been tinkering with thumbnail work this week, sir — the thumbnails log shows recent edits there."

It knew that because it's connected to my actual files and memory, not guessing.

It tells jokes too, which is pointless but brilliant.

I asked for an AI joke and got: "Why did the neural network break up with the database? She had too many issues and wouldn't commit to a schema."

Use Case 2: Building Apps, Games And Websites By Voice

This is where Hermes agent use cases stop being a gimmick and start being leverage.

Everything I've built gets saved into a builds section I can come back to later.

Here's what's actually sitting in mine right now.

There's a habit tracker we built in one conversation.

There's a full website, built end to end.

There's a Japanese flashcard game for language practice.

There's a meditation timer.

It can even create videos.

And I'll say it again because it matters: I don't code.

Every one of those came from talking to Jarvis, and the full history of every conversation is saved so I can pick any project back up whenever I want.

If you want to see how this scales beyond one agent, my Hermes agent swarm setup runs multiple builders in parallel.

Use Case 3: Computer Use And Browser Control

Hermes has computer use and browser use built in, which is really powerful on its own.

I say "Jarvis, open up juliangoldie.com" and it replies "Opening Julian Goldie's site now, sir" — and the browser opens with the site loaded.

That means the agent isn't trapped in a chat window.

It can open apps, navigate websites, and interact with your actual machine.

I covered the deeper computer-use side in my Hermes computer use guide if you want the full breakdown.

Use Case 4: A Second Brain With Obsidian (The Memory Galaxy)

Every conversation with Hermes and Jarvis gets linked to my Obsidian memory.

I call it the memory galaxy.

Everything we do gets logged, so I can go back later and see exactly what we built and when.

That's why Jarvis could answer the "what have I been working on this week" question accurately — it reads the actual logs.

It makes managing everything in one place genuinely easy instead of theoretically easy.

I did a full walkthrough of this in my Hermes second brain setup, and the video below shows the Obsidian and Omi integration working live.

Use Case 5: Agent Teams And Group Chats

This one surprised me the most.

I say "Jarvis, show me my team" and it pulls up every agent ready inside my system — Claude, OpenClaw, Hermes, all of them together.

We've got mission control for overseeing everything, Paperclip built in with AI agent teams, and an agent group chat where Hermes can literally talk to Claude and Gemini.

You stop being one person prompting one model.

You become the manager of a team that coordinates itself.

Here's the swarm video that shows the multi-agent side properly.

Use Case 6: MCPs, Model Management And Goal Mode

Hermes links with MCPs, which means you can plug in almost any external tool or data source.

You can manage which model runs what from the dashboard.

There's a control room for oversight, a goal mode where you set an outcome and let it work, and a plain chat mode when you just want to talk.

This flexibility is why Hermes agent use cases keep expanding — the platform isn't locked to one workflow.

My Hermes MCP server guide covers the integration side in detail.

Use Case 7: A Free Local Agent Factory With Qwen And Ollama

Here's the one for anyone worried about API costs.

I built a similar agent factory setup using Qwen 2.5 Coder running on Ollama.

That means it runs on a free local model — no tokens, no subscription, no bill at the end of the month.

I can speak or type to it and watch it build things live on screen.

Local models are getting better and better, and when you think about what that means for free agent setups, it's mind-blowing.

Which Hermes Agent Use Cases Are Fun vs Actually Useful?

Let me be straight with you, because not all of these carry equal weight.

Use case Fun factor Real-world value Best for
Jarvis voice assistant Very high Medium Demos, quick queries, hands-free control
Voice app building High High Non-coders shipping tools fast
Computer + browser use Medium High Automation, research, repetitive tasks
Obsidian second brain Medium Very high Memory, logs, knowledge management
Agent teams + group chat High High Parallel work, bigger projects
MCPs + goal mode Low Very high Serious workflows and integrations
Local Ollama factory High Medium Zero-cost experimentation

From an implementation standpoint, something like Paperclip or the workspace tools gets more done faster.

But as a fun party trick with AI that still produces real output, the Jarvis setup is probably my favourite thing I've built this year.

How To Start With Hermes Agent Use Cases Today

You don't need all seven on day one.

Start with the basic install — my Hermes agent installation guide takes you through it step by step.

Then pick the one use case that solves a real problem you have this week.

If you forget things, set up the Obsidian memory.

If you have app ideas you can't build, start voice building.

If you're cost-sensitive, go the Ollama route first.

Stack the rest over time, because the system compounds.

FAQ: Hermes Agent Use Cases

What are the best Hermes agent use cases for beginners?

Start with the chat mode and the second brain memory setup, because they deliver value with almost no configuration. Voice building and agent teams are better once you're comfortable with the basics.

Can I use Hermes agent without knowing how to code?

Yes — I don't code and I built a habit tracker, a full website, a flashcard game, a meditation timer and a Jarvis voice assistant. You describe what you want and the agent builds it.

How does the Hermes Jarvis voice assistant work?

It combines three parts: Hermes agent for the agentic capabilities, ElevenLabs for voice generation, and Claude for background improvements. A wake word ("Jarvis" or "Hermes") switches it on hands-free.

Is Hermes agent free to use?

The Hermes agent project is open source and free. You can run it completely free using local models like Qwen 2.5 Coder with Ollama, or connect paid models like Claude for more capability.

Can Hermes agent control my computer?

Yes — computer use and browser use are built in. It can open websites, launch apps and interact with your machine, which is one of the most practical Hermes agent use cases for automation.

What's the difference between Hermes goal mode and chat mode?

Chat mode is a normal conversation. Goal mode lets you set an outcome and the agent works towards it autonomously, checking in as it goes — better for longer tasks you don't want to babysit.
